The Poets' Epic, 1000 Poets on Poetry

Hello poets and poetry fans. This is going to be the blog for The Poets' Epic project. We've noticed from the hundreds of poets we've published that writers often like to write about writing, or why they write or the importance of writing. Poetry is no exception.

In fact, in the 21st century, poetry seems to be making a come back in the mainstream! Yet there are still some people who don't really understand the benefits of poetry. And there are no shortage of poets who love to write about the benefits of poetry. More than that, poetry is great at forming communities around the art--both online as well as in person.

With all these things in mind, we came up with the Poets' Epic project. Our goal is to create a communal poem--with one small verse being contributed from 1000 poets about poetry--its importance, its meaning, its purpose, what its job is and why society needs poets and poetry. We know this will take awhile to complete, but as the verses come in,  little by little until we reach our goal. Let's see what we can do, how many different countries can we represent in this goal?

We will kick it off with one verse by our publisher, James P. Wagner (Ishwa)

To use words to illuminate the path
as the watcher in the night lit the candles
       of the streetlamps of old

              ~ James P. Wagner (Ishwa)

I wrote this poem a while ago but I think it applies to the collaborative poem you had in mind. I know you said 3-4 lines. Pick whatever 3 lines you think would fit put of the poem.

Poe's Children-

We poets need to write
It's in our pulse, it keeps us alive
Walking, speaking, breathing metronome's

Keeping time, to our lives
Heartbeats, blood streams, cadence
March, march, forward haunch

Illustrators seeking higher meaning
Sketching prose in charcoal
Breathing testimonials expressing themselves
Exhibitionists exposing our souls.

As instructed, I sent an e-mail, but, just in case, here is my submission for the epic poem.

A pen pricks paper
ink bubbles over and flows
words to bind our souls

    The Poets' Epic

Welcome to the blog of the Poets' Epic--a project for the relevancy and importance of poetry written by poets themselves.

Our goal is to bring 1000 poets together to each contribute 1 verse to the poem.
Here we will be tracking our progress and posting the verses as they come.

After all the verses are finally in, we will be putting the poem together into a book.
