Join The Poetic Memoir Chapbook Challenge 2022! Encore
April 13th-23rd 2022

In Feb of last year, Local Gems Press's publisher, James P. Wagner (Ishwa), lost his Aunt to Pancreatic Cancer. She was only 66...and she was a third parent to him.

Like all writers do, when hard times strike...he turned to writing to cope and sort out his emotions.

He found himself writing poems about childhood, early memories, things that turned him into who he was--experiences of all shapes and sizes.

He was writing poetic memoir.

Over the last year especially, we've seen a lot of poets writing poetry that could be classified as poetic memoir...

and so the idea for this challenge was born.

We ran this challenge last year and it was the most popular challenge we have run to date.

Can you write 15 poems in 10 days? A chapbook?

All participants are free to use the main prompts, prompts from the journal or any other ideas or inspiration they have for writing their poems, the only hard and fast rule is to write the 15 poems in 10 days!

Printing

If the challenge is completed, the participant can inform us of the completion and then have the opportunity for Local Gems Press to print a chapbook for them--the finished chapbooks will be pocket-sized books, 4.25 by 6.9.
